On Page SEO refers to the actual work you can do on your site, such as the domain names, the url, the headings and the copy you actually create. Off page SEO is more about finding quality pages and having them link to you. There are directories and many other linking sites out there, but the key is to look carefully at the sites you have linking to you and ensure they attract the right kind of attention you are looking for. Highly linked sites, that are actually part of link rings tend to be poor places to gain links from.
